Surname Dictionary

Heeran fairly rare: Leitrim, Midlands etc. Ó h-Uidhrin, Odhar, an early first name meaning dun, (the colour grey-brown). A sept of Offaly now confused with Hearn, Heaveron and Hefferon. Giolla na Naomh Ó h-Uidhrin was co-author with Ó Dubhgáin of the Topographical Poems - a major source of surname information from 14 cent. SGG.
