Morris | Very numerous: all areas, especially South East, Midlands, Connacht. Ir. Ó Muiris (ASC), Ó Muirghis (SGG). The name is English and Scottish from first name Maurice "like a Moor". Normans, first appearing as de Marisco, they became one of the "Tribes of Galway". The name may also stand for Ó Muirgheasa, usually Morrissy.
