Mac Searraigh Mac Sharry: líonmhar (1) Sligeach-Liatroim (MacSharry); (2) Ard Mhacha-an Dún (MacSherry). Bhí an dara clann in Aontroim; an chéad cheann i mBreifne. Fréamh: b'fhéidir, searrach, capall óg agus, go meafarach, bríomhar.
MacSharry fairly numerous: Leitrim-Sligo etc. Ir. Mac Searraigh, possibly from searrach, a foal, i.e. flighty. A sept of Breifne (Cavan-Leitrim).
MacSherry fairly numerous: Armagh-Down etc. Ir. Mac Searraigh. See Mac Sharry. A sept of Oriel (Armagh-Monaghan), distinct from those of Breifne, who appear as Mac Sharry. There was a similiar Scottish name which did not come to Ireland, apparently; also the Mac Sherrys of W Cork, for which see Hodnett. The name also occurs as Sherry, q.v.
Sharry rare: Dublin, W Meath. Ir. Mac Searaigh. See Mac Sharry.
Sherry numerous: S Ulster, Midlands, Galway-Mayo etc. Ir. Mac Searraigh, possibly from searrach, a foal. A sept of Oriel (Armagh etc). See Mac Sherry.
