Surname Dictionary

Cashin Quite numerous: Laois, Tipperary, Kilkenny etc. Ir. Mac Caisín. Originally a family of hereditary physicians in Laois, the anglicised versions vary and there seems to be confusion with Ó Caisín which relates to Munster. See also Cassin. MIF.

MacCashin fairly rare: Down, Dublin etc. Ir. Mac Caisín, from first name Cas, curly. This name was associated with a medical family of Ossory but was also in Antrim.
