Doogan Quite numerous: W Ulster. Ir. Ó Dubhagáin. A variant of Duggan in Ulster.
Doohan Quite numerous: Donegal, Clare. Ir. Ó Duacháin, but the Clare people are probably Ó Dubhchon. See also Doughan.
Dougan numerous: E Ulster etc. Ir. Ó Dubhagáin (dim. of dubh, black). See Duggan.
Doughan rare: N Tipperary. Ir. Ó Dubhchon, black hound. See Doohan.
Dugan Quite numerous: E Ulster. A Scottish name cognate with Dougan and Duggan, q.v.
Duggan Very numerous: Munster, Connacht, Ulster. The E Ulster Duggans may be of Scottish origin, to some extent. Ir. Ó Dubhagáin, dim. of dubh, black or dark. IF & SGG.
