Arkins rare: Dublin, Clare, Galway. Ir. Ó h-Orcáin. MacLysacht considers it separate from Harkins in Ulster.
Harkin numerous: Derry-Donegal & Ulster generally; also Midlands. Ir. Ó h-Earcáin, earc, red. They were erenaghs in Inishowen (Donegal). A similar English name exists.MIF.
Ó h-Earcáin Harkin: líonmhar: Doire & Tír Chonaill. Brí: earc = ainmhí nó, b'fhéidir, abhac.
