CLONMACDUFF

CLONMACDUFF, a parish, in the barony of UPPER NAVAN, county of MEATH, and province of LEINSTER, 3 miles (N.) from Trim ; containing 716 inhabitants. This parish, of which the name signifies "Mac Duff's Retreat," is situated on the road from Navan to Athboy. The land is chiefly under tillage ; and there is a considerable tract of bog, affording abundance of turf for fuel, Meadstown is the residence of Christopher Barn-wall, Esq. It is a rectory, in the diocese of Meath, forming part of the union of Ardbraccan ; the tithes amount to £136. 5. 4. In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the district of Churchtown and Moymet. At Dunderry is a small school, supported by subscription.
