Ó Sceacháin Skehan: cuíosach líonmhar: Oir-dheisceart-Tiobraid Árann-Luimneach-an Clár. Bhí an chlann sa bunaithe i dTiobraid Árann. Is ionann sceach agus dris nó tor deilgneach; b'fhéidir go bhfuil tagairt do dhuine achrannach?
Skehan fairly numerous: South East, Tipperary-Limerick-Clare. Ir. Ó Sceacháin, perhaps from sceach, a thorn bush. This has lead to a widespread change to Thornton. In Ulster, the name was Mac Sceacháin, giving the rare Mac Skeane (as well as Thornton).MIF.
