Surname Dictionary

Mallen rare: Monaghan etc. Ir. Ó Maoilfhinn (fair chief), but see also Mallon.
Mallon numerous: Ulster generally, N Leinster etc. Ir. Ó Mealláin, dimin. of meall, beguiling. Also as Mallen, Mallin. SI.
Malynn Very rare: Belfast. Ir. Ó Maoilfhinn, (fair chief). A name from Monaghan but also Scottish. See also Mallin, Mallon.
Malynn rare: Galway etc. Ir. Ó Maoilfhinn (fair chief); but as this is not a Connacht name, we may be dealing with a variant of Mullin, Ó Maoláin.
