Surname Dictionary

Lappin numerous: Ulster, especially Armagh-Down. Ir. Ó Lapáin. Perhaps from lapa, paw. At first a sept of Donegal, they moved to Armagh. Also as Delap. This is one of oldest recorded surnames (10 cent). It must be noted the name also exists in England.MIF.
Ó Lapáin Lappin: líonmhar: Ard Mhacha-an Dún. Clann a bhí i gCineál Éanna, Tír Conaill go dtí 1100 ach a bhí le fáil in oirthear Uladh ón 17 céad. Tá meascadh le Delap, athleagan ar an sloinne Albanach, Dunlop. Bhí fear de mhuintir Lapáin ina easpag ar Rath Bhoth sa 10 céad - rud a fhágann gur sloinne fíor-ársa é. MIF.
