Surname Dictionary

Kyne fairly numerous: Galway etc. Ir. Ó Cadhain, cadhan, a barnacle goose. But the word is no doubt a personal name in this case. The writer, Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1905-70) was probably the greatest master of the Irish language in this century. IF & SGG.
Ó Cadhain rare: Galway etc. Ir.Lang. See Coyne.
Ó Cadhain Coyne, Kyne, Barnicle: cuíosach líonmhar i nGailimh & rl. Clann de chuid Uí Fiachrach i gConnacht: Partraí a ndúiche. Is ionann cadhan agus gé ghiúrainn - as sin an galldú aisteach Barnicle. Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1905-70), scríbhneoir, an duine b'iomráití díobh. IF & SGG.
