Surname Dictionary

Cormican Quite numerous: Galway, Roscommon, Down. Ir. Mac Cormacáin, dim. of Cormac. However, it is most probable that this was originally Ó Cormacáin. Under this heading, Woulfe list four septs, three of which were located in Galway, Roscommon and Down, respectively, showing a remarkable correlation with the present distribution.
Ó Cormacáin Cormican: líon beag: Gaillimh-Ros Comáin, an Dún. Bhí clanna éagsúla i dTuathmhumhain, Connachta & an Dún. Luaitear Mac Cormacáin ach is dócha gurab é an sloinne céanna é. Bíonn an t-ainm Cormac i bhfeidhm go mór i sloinnte; b'fhéidir go dtagann sé ón sean-ainm Corbb + mac.GPN.
