Fennessy fairly numerous: Munster etc. Ir. Ó Fionnghusa (fair vigour). Associated with Waterford. Mod. Ó Fionnasa.
[Later, more extensive research on the name indicates that the Irish original was in fact Ó Fiannghusa, from Fiann (soldier) and gus (strong)].
Ó Fionnghusa Fennessy: cuíosach líonmhar: Cúige Mumhan, Port Lairge ach go h-áirithe. An bhrí: fionn + gus (fuinneamh).
