Mac Dhiarmada Kermode: fíor-annamh: an fuaimniú i gConnachta faoi ndear an leagan sa. Féach Mac Diarmada.
MacDermott Very numerous: all areas, especially Connacht, Derry-Tyrone-Fermanagh, Monaghan-Louth, Midlands. Ir. Mac Diarmada, son of Diarmaid, an early first name, meaning, perhaps, "freeman". An important sept of Connacht, divided into three branches: Mac Dermot of Moylurg (senior); Mac Dermot Roe (rua, red) and Mac Dermot Gallda (anglicised). The Mac Dermot, recognised chief of the sept, enjoys the title of "Prince of Coolavin". IF & SGG.
