Cunney fairly rare: Galway-Mayo-Sligo. Ir. Ó Coinne. Woulfe identifies it with a sept in Down later in Tyrone. How it came to Connacht is not clear. Derivation is said to be from Coinneach, the personal name. SI & SGG.
