Surname Dictionary

Clancy Very numerous: all provinces, least in Ulster. Ir. Mac Fhlannchaidh. Two septs are noted(1) Brehons to the O'Briens of Thomond, (2) Chiefs of Dartry in Leitrim. IF & SGG.
Glancy Quite numerous: Leitrim and adjoining areas. Ir. Mag Fhlannchaidh, (ruddy warrior - according to Woulfe). A variant of Clancy in Breifne where they constituted a distinct sept. Clancy relates to Clare. IF.
Mac Fhlannchadha rare: Dublin. Ir.Lang. See Clancy.
Mac Fhlannchadha Clancy: an-líonmhar: ar fud na tíre: Luimneach agus an Clár ach go h-áirithe. Bhí siad mar bhreithiúna ag na Brianaigh i dTuathmhumhain, clann eile i Liatroim go bhfuil Mag Fhlannchadha orthu (cuid acu, ar aon nós). IF & SGG.
